Established in 1976, a state owned corporation created a fund for future generations 

once oil resources were depleted.  This fund, known as the Permanent Fund Dividend has 

grown from hundreds of thousands of dollars from its start, to approximately 42 billion 

dollars in 2012.  Consisting of oil revenues, residents love this annual perk.  The largest 

payout recorded being $2069.00 for every man, woman, and child.

Anchorage is home to forty two percent of Alaska’s population with an average age 

of thirty two. Only about twenty five percent of Anchorage is native born, the rest having 

come from other states and countries, making Anchorage a very diverse community to live
